Apollino RFN Warrior Kids SX-E500: The Perfect Entry-Level Electric Dirt Bike for Junior Riders

Finding a dirtbike for children as young as three has always been challenging. The smallest well-known option, Yamaha’s PW50, weighs 41kg with a 48cm seat height and requires oil-injected two-stroke engine maintenance. At just 24kg with a 49cm seat height, the SX-E500 is dramatically easier for small children to handle. Powered by a 500-watt brushless motor and 36v lithium battery, it delivers smooth power with up to 75 minutes of runtime on low-speed mode. The handlebar-mounted hydraulic disc brakes replace the PW50’s foot brake system, making control more intuitive for beginners without requiring foot coordination.

Our test with three-year-old Bonnie (105cm) and five-year-old Jax (125cm) confirmed the bike’s child-friendly design. Bonnie could confidently touch the ground and independently pick up the bike after falls – crucial for building confidence without constant parental intervention. Jax had enough control to stand over the bike and lift the front end for navigating bumps.

Both children quickly adapted to the power modes, though Sport mode does have an initial throttle “snap” that can be jerky for beginners in tight situations. This caused occasional challenges for Bonnie when navigating rocky sections, where accidental throttle inputs during bouncing nearly caused the bike to loop out.

The dual suspension performs surprisingly well on rough terrain, though the compact design creates a steep rake angle making the front-end somewhat twitchy on rough ground at speed. The hydraulic disc brakes with 140mm rotors provide strong stopping power that even Bonnie could activate with just two fingers – a significant safety upgrade from the PW50’s drum brakes.

The swappable battery system (second battery included) eliminates downtime between rides, and after months of crashes and outdoor exposure, durability has proven excellent. For older children like Jax, who typically rides a heavier Husqvarna EE 3, the SX-E500 becomes a valuable training tool. Its lightweight design allows for confident practice of wheelies, log hopping, and controlled skids with the security of easy foot placement.
